Yarn Corner

10/07/2013 · In: Home and Away

I decided to pop into Lincraft today for a bit of interfacing (as you do). In the shopping centre, I noticed it was raining yarn.

yarn bombing, yarn corner, lincraftUnfortunately it’s wasn’t real yarn – just a few hundred enormous decoys hanging from the ceiling. Oh well – it’s not like I really need more yarn anyway.

This little bit of indoor yarn bombing is courtesy of Yarn Corner, a Melbourne based group who decorated Melbourne’s City Square last Autumn with a rather impressive display of colour.

I have mixed feelings about yarn bombing.

I get really annoyed when I see knitted fabric attached to handrails because it makes them dangerous for people who actually need to use them.

I also hate to see knitted gizmos wrapped around something and then abandoned. They look great when they first go up, but a few weeks in the weather turns them into a mouldy, weathered mess that someone else is left to clean up.

If you are going to yarn bomb I think you should be prepared to take it down again when the yarn becomes disgusting.

But apart from these two objections, I love a coming across a bit of unexpected knitting in my travels around the city.
