Stitch’n’Bitch at Morris and Sons

26/05/2011 · In: My knitting

Every Thursday night from 5pm to 7pm is Stitch’n’Bitch at Morris and Sons in Melbourne.  I work until 6pm every day so by the time I get there I usually do a lot more catching up than knitting. Oh well, once I win twenty million in the lottery I’ll be able to go for the two whole hours.

Often I’ll just go and fondle the yarn while I chat. I think providing customers with the opportunity to fondle yarn is vital for any yarn shop.

One of the yarn shops in my area has all the yarn on high shelves packed away in the plastic bags  that the mills pack them in. You can’t fondle the yarn and you feel bad about asking if you can open a packet of yarn just to give it a squeeze.

I’ve never had that problem at Morris and Sons. I’m more likely to walk in and have one of the lovely staff demand I give some new yarn a cuddle or look at their latest widget for counting rows. All the yarn is at fondling height – like the Morris Estate 8ply below, which I use a lot.

If this sounds like a plug then it sort-of is. I have a great LYS and I want to share my enthusiasm for it. Also, I’ve never been thrown out for talking to the yarn. You know, the usual stuff – “hello little skein, would you like to come home with me”.

I have particular trouble walking past the Araucania display.

So many beautiful yarns, so little time. Maybe I should buy that lottery ticket?
