Settling in

14/06/2015 · In: Home and Away

We moved to Gordon almost three months ago and I finally feel like we’ve settled in.

There were some early problems when we discovered the heater didn’t work, and it took ages for everything to find a permanent place but everything is sorted out now I finally feel like I’ve settled in.

So today I thought I’d just do a quick post with some photos I took at different times of day over the weekend. I hope you like them.

Lets start with sunrise. Most days the fog doesn’t lift until mid-morning, but today we had a clear morning and an amazing purple sky.

By mid morning I got snap-happy and took a picture of the unused chook shed…

And finally as the sun went down, we had a yard full of kangaroos. This pair kept biffing each other in the head but they didn’t seem very serious about it. I’m not sure if they were playing or not.

I’m not even sure if kangaroos play like that but I don’t see why they wouldn’t – these two are just little ones so they are probably quite young and playful. We’re just happy they keep the grass down so we don’t have to mow.

    So jealous of your kangas!

Our real estate agent, Geoff, lives in Gordon and hand raises orphan roos. He told me they come back to visit for a week at a time and I pictured them sitting in his back yard, nibbling on bread. He then told me that they lie down in front of the heater and watch the telly with him! Not sure if I’d want them that close!

I never knew the name of those mushrooms but I do remember seeing them at the reservoir in Ballan amongst the pine trees on the other side and thinking how beautiful they were.

Beautiful but potentially deadly. I never know if I should jump on them or just leave them alone – I don’t think any of the animals are interested and we don’t have kids so I usually just leave them.

Heh, I never thought of kangaroos as grass-mowing devices. I reckon I could do with one…

They are really effective. We haven’t had to mow yet – but they do poo everywhere!
