Michelin Scarf

09/01/2011 · In: My knitting, Original Patterns

Update 2 April 2011. Michelin is now available at a Ravelry Download. download now

I talk about this scarf in my previous post. I’m really happy with the result and while I intended it to be a birthday present, I’m not sure if the shock of green and yellow in amongst the grey will frighten the recipient or not. I’ll have to think about that.
MICHELIN SCARF
Finished size 21.5cm wide, 112cm long.
If you use five skeins you should end up with approx 145cm length if you prefer a longer scarf. You will need 4 skeins of Noro Kureyon. I used colour 217
4mm straight needles
Tension. This scarf is knit on smaller than usual needles. Measure tension over the pattern but measuring the number of ridges (the mountains, not the valleys) over 10cm. There should be 8 “mountains”.
Pattern Cast on 40 stitches using standard cable cast-on
Row 1 – Knit to end
Row 2 – Purl to end
Row 3 – Knit to end
Repeat rows 1 – 3 unitl almost all yarn is used – leaving only enough to cast off.
Cast off after a Row 3 of the pattern.
Wash carefully and block by allowing to dry, unpinned on a blocking board or towel. When it’s wet all of the ridges in the scarf will flatten out. When you lie it out to dry, arrange it by pleating the ridges back in by hand. this sounds trickier than it is, you basically need to just shape it so it looks the same as before you washed it.
